City State of A'Lenar Tel A'Ner

A'Lenar Tel A'Ner or Lenar for short, is the walled city state that provides the largest port on the southern continent. The name translates roughly to "The Glorious New City of Glorious Ner" after the capital Ner of the long since fallen magical empire.

The city state is easily the most powerful human settlement in the region using its influence and power to push around the other human settlements and city states. Its Military may be a shadow of its former self but they do manage to keep the lizard folks in line.

Lenar makes most of its money selling rare desert spicies and slaves for rare silks, magical trinkets and fine weapons. The ports of Lenar are dangerous and rough but mercenaries and adventurers can usually find work here. Lizard men and non humans come from all over to Lenar to trade. Islanders from the northern chain are considered especially valuable slaves and companions. A few have even made their way into court life as exotic but powerful second or third wives of noblemen.

A recent fad has encouraged the enslavement and trade of small pixies usually for entertainment to the wealthy.

would the snakemen figure into this somewhere, maybe as a shadowy cult of demon worshiping conspirators?

In my head the snakemen live on the other side of the continent, but there would surely be somethere...

I like the idea that humans trust them less because they dont have legs. (And are poisonous)

in one of my favorite book series called the Riftwar Saga by raymond e feist, there is a race of snakemen called the Pantathian Serpent Priests. they are a death cult that worships a Valheru(proto-god) that created them.
the valheru were killed off but left behind a magical artifact that would bring them back. the artifact would however kill everything on the planet, including the serpentmen, but they believe their "goddess" would bring them back as demigods.
they work behind the scenes trying to weaken the kingdoms where the relic is hidden because they lack the numbers to take it by force. they even went so far as to abduct people from taht kingdom, clone them and attempt to send the clones back to the kingdom. the clones were each infected with a magical plague that would wipe out like 90% of the population.

just some ideas

No problem with snakemen being off to overthrow the world as we know it.
